Fenabanca criticises Dominican gambling law changes on shop distances, article 134 and labour requirements
By The Weekly Edge desk ·
Summary
Fenabanca, which represents traditional lottery shops in the Dominican Republic, backed the original text of the new gambling law but objects to changes made by the Chamber of Deputies and accepted by the Senate. Its secretary general Cristian Guzmán cites a reduced minimum distance between lottery shops (200 metres instead of 500), restrictions in article 134 on selling certain games, and the removal of Social Security compliance as a licence condition. He welcomes the requirement that all operators pay the tax authority DGI, which will sit on the technical council, and says a 90-day consultation period is planned after promulgation.
Why it matters
Lottery shops face changed distance rules and game-sale limits, while Fenabanca contests those changes.
